It’s September already! Can you believe it? The boys are in Kindergarten and Super Twin Mom Shop is booming! (THANK YOU!) I’d like to introduce our September Super Twin Mom of the month: Sharnell Madison! Sharnell and I met through my Instagram & blog – YAY, WE ARE GROWING, y’all are the best, let’s get to know Sharnell!
Tell me about yourself, your career, and your family. Twins? Names? Ages? Significant other?
Who is Sharnell? I am a very fun, loving, caring, outgoing, and outspoken person. By day, I’m a full time Benefits Specialist and at night and in between time, I am a part-time online wellness coach. I have beautiful two year-old fraternal twin daughters named Averi and Stella. I can’t forget about my amazing husband Tre’von.
Can you talk about what it’s like to manage a full career and have twins?
Managing a full time career and having twins has been an uphill battle. I was the girl who was always on the go. If an event popped up, I was there. Having my twins kind of put me on pause for a minute. Being a first time mom and a Twin Mom, the first year was a big adjustment for me. Not having many people to relate to, I battled with depression during my first year, learning how to balance work and home life being a mom, live-in girlfriend, and business owner. Thank God for prayer because year two has been a lot better.
When you’re not on full Mommy duty, what do you like to do?
I love to get up with my girls, whether it’s for brunch, a women empowerment event, etc. I love connecting with other like-minded individuals.
What is the best thing about being a twin Mommy?
The best part about being a Twin Mom is that your child will always have a best friend or someone to play with. My girls will never have to compete to be apart of a team, because they are their own team. But most of all, when I feel alone, I always have four loving arms holding on to me.
What is the hardest thing about being a twin mom?
The hardest part about being a Twin Mom is learning to work with two different personalities with little people who are the same age. Averi, the oldest, is my cuddle bug and Stella is Miss Independent.
What was your reaction when you found out you were having twins?
Ha Ha!!! I’m glad you asked. My odds of having twins were very high. My mom was a twin and my maternal grandmother had two sets of twins. I prayed that it would skip me. When the doctor told me and my then boyfriend we were having twins, we both told her, “Get out of here. Run the test back.”
Please give any advice that you’d like to share with twin (or any) moms out there.
The best advice I would give to a Twin mom or any mom is to do what works for you and your family. Take every opinion and solution with a grain of salt. Learn to coupon(you will save big bucks on diapers). Most of all, give yourself a break and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
